IPOB Slams FG Over Terrorism List, Insists ‘We Are Not Terrorists’

 

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the Federal Government’s recently released terrorism sponsors list, declaring that it does not reflect the true situation and should be disregarded.

In a statement made public on April 13, 2026, IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, described the list as misleading and politically motivated, alleging that it was created to tarnish the image of the group and its supporters.

The organisation, under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu, insisted that it remains a non-violent movement committed to the pursuit of self-determination, rejecting any claims linking it to terrorism.

IPOB stated that attempts to brand it or its members as sponsors of terrorism would not stand the test of scrutiny, especially in jurisdictions where it claims its activities are lawful and recognised.

The group further noted that such classifications risk undermining genuine efforts to address security challenges, stressing that mislabeling could create confusion both locally and internationally.

According to the statement, the publication of the list is part of a broader narrative aimed at weakening its agitation, particularly among its supporters and observers across the globe.

IPOB, however, maintained that it remains resolute, adding that no amount of pressure or public labeling would force it to abandon its objectives.

The group reaffirmed its stance that the call for self-determination is a fundamental right and not a criminal act, emphasizing that its campaign would continue.

At the time of this report, there has been no official response from the Federal Government regarding IPOB’s reaction.
