Following the capture of their president by the United States, some Venezuelans say they are celebrating their nation’s “liberation.”
Footage from Cucuta city in Colombia shows crowds gathering in the streets on Saturday night, dancing to music and chanting “virtue” and “a free Venezuela.”
A 42-year-old Venezuelan political exile described it as a day of celebration, saying, “one of the first heads has fallen,” but warned the country still has a long road ahead.
“We need the whole world to support us, to listen to us, to see us celebrate, to realize that what Maduro said was never true,” she said.
“We all want to return to Venezuela to build the future for our children and for our grandchildren.”
